Chrome by default doesn't have the ability to have separate user profiles, which is a nice feature to have when you are sharing the computer with family members. Browsers are getting more personal allowing the user to customize many aspects of it's functionality as well as having the browser remember keywords searched, URL's visited, etc. to make life more convenient.
Creating profiles allows you to separate your browser data from other family members or work colleagues. Follow these simple steps to create separate user profile:
1. Start Chrome then clear all history by selecting 'Clear Browsing
History' in the 'Tools' menu
2. Open the Google Chrome installation folder located in the Program
Files folder
3. Next, double-click on the 'User Data' folder
4. Right-click on the 'Default' folder and select 'Copy'
5. Right-click on an empty space in the current folder and select 'Paste'
6. Rename the newly created folder to anything you want
7. Right-click on an empty space on the desktop and select 'New->Shortcut'
8. For Windows XP copy this line into the location bar:
C:\Documents and Settings\User\Local Settings\Application Data\Google\
Chrome\Application\chrome.exe 'user-data-dir='..\User Data\Name
9. For windows Vista/7 copy this line into the Location bar:
C:\Users\username\AppData\Local\Google\Chrome\Application\
chrome.exe 'user-data-dir='..\User Data\Name
10. Replace 'Name' at the end of the line with the name you chose when
creating the folder in step 6
Now, whenever you want to use the newly created profile, simple double-click on the shortcut to load it up in Google Chrome.
